TNR 28-4-2011 Dusty Asian Elephant

From TNR 28-04-11 Asian Elephant

Jumbo Crew: G, El Pres, Slim, TJ, Dunc, Butty, Stunt

Jenkins Jessies: PTD, 3 Sheds, Coley

route: Rainbow bridge, Lidgetts lane, back of Kerridge, Ingersley vale, Oakenbank lane, Jumper Lane, Blaze Hill, Pike Road, Bank Lane, Jenkins Chapel, Pyms Chair, Wingather rocks, Taxal Ridge, Kettleshulme, Back of the moorside, Mudhurst Lane, Bowstones, Sponds Hill, Pott Shrigley, Vale

From TNR 28-04-11 Asian Elephant

Conditions: Sunny but then clouded over, cooler in the breeze than you might think. Dry & dusty trails.

Stats: – No faffs but Dunc admits to an off in the pub.

Notes:

G plans a repeat of the January Jumbo epic, but 7 out of 10 riders prefer sensible at rainbow bridge

Dry trails and sunshine make the hills smaller and the descents better šŸ™‚

G still manages to find mud on Bank lane and starts siren songs of cocktails at wingather rocks and a slightly smaller jumbo (the asian?)

now we find that 7 out of ten riders prefer elephant and we part ways at Jenkins chapel

Pyms chair topped out to a shimmering red disc of setting sun, fab ridge runs in the dusk,

Butties and cocktails at the end of taxal ridge before that “little” drop into Kettleshulme and up behind the moorside.

Tired legs up to bowstones, but rapid descent down and into the Vale for 10, still able to get chips

Dunc shows Nachos is best, and tactical cokes now come with whisky chasers šŸ˜‰

Notes:

Wind/waterproofs not required for the first time this year

Nic learns about magic links

RAI tops make a reappearance (from blue team)

Route choice to allow late starters to join at the tea rooms (but not the best for butty’s singlespeed!)

A good night for wildlifeĀ  i-spy spots of Owls, Curlew, Grouse, Bats & Mice

All trails nice & dry (but not dusty)

3: Ā Loose seatpost

From TNR 07-04-11 Forest & Faff

Notes:

The prodigal son (of mawds šŸ˜‰) returns but brings with him a whole bunch of faff.

Run to failure is a valid maintenance strategy – but failure to learn is not – 3rd bolt failure & still no spare carried!!

Maybe next week a full routeplan will be completed!

Trails perfect for maximum enjoyment

Approach to dentist descent a little tricky for El Pres – but that extra ventilation in the gusset will come in handy if its a bbq summer šŸ˜‰

Light till past eight = scenery to enjoy, and slim waxes lyrical about the moon.

Eric joins us in the pub for Spring Frenzy and Mad Trumpet.

Pietastic food and a short axis of single malts with talk of summer outings.

Pub: Mawds (DNS), El Pud (DNS)
Route: 28 barracks – Cat – Shining Tor – Pymms Chair, Jenkins Chapel, Oakenbank, The Vale

Big Dan turns up outside Barracks Lane for the first time in a few weeks – but sadly no bike.

Return of Aussie Steve and his enhanced brother Sean.

rendezvous at 28 barracks lane

19:03 and yes we know Pete isn’t coming …Kersh the doubter

“Yah you just need to unweight at the right time …..” Lord Kersh on how to avoid punctures on the yorkshire north shore.

Initial big plans of reaching Taxal fade fast on the Shining Tor Pathway of Punctures.

Andy first to succumb. Kersh heard to mutter – ā€œIt’s how you weight and unweight the bike over the drainage channelsā€. But was strangely quiet 10 minutes later whilst repairing his own puncture.

Nancy’s fly past – only to be struck down themselves shortly after.

…..10 minutes later

Shortly before it all goes wrong…

Sums up the night really …

Aussie Steve and Sean go home after seeing enough punctures repaired.
Everyone gets chilly.

Nancy’s seen again as we pass the Poachers and confess they have driven back from the Goyt.
In The Vale an open fire, superb pie, 3 pints and reminisces of ‘New Invention’ make everything seem right again.

Sheltering from the wind

Low flying B52 narrowly misses us….

This is getting tedious….

Cheshire Cat 2011 Sportive – Sunday 27th March

From Cheshire Cat 2011 27th March

Main Article by Dunc (with the odd edit & pics by Slim)

Crew: Slim, Coley, Dunc & Brendan from the Duks

Pub: Slim & Dunc for a swift well earned pint in the Windmill while waiting to pick upĀ  Slim’s daughter number 2Ā  on the route home.

Route: Crewe & back taking in the whole of Cheshire (East and West) Hassall Green, Scholar Green, Mow Cop, Rushton Spencer, Heaton (feed station #1), Wincle, Sutton, Gawsworth, Siddington, Twemlow, Holmes Chapel (feed station#2), Church Minshull, Beeston Castle, Tattenhall (feed station #3), Malpas, Crewe.

Weather: Cold (5 deg) cloudy and no wind. Gore windstopper the right answer. The sun appeared briefly in the second half of the ride.

Stats: 100 miles, 3 TNR-ers and no mechanicals (is this a first?). Slim ā€˜dabs’ on Mow Cop due to inappropriate gearing, heavy camelback and mudguards (and lack of meat-based snacks šŸ˜‰ )

Time on bike – 6hr 43mins, Total elapsed time – 7hr 57 min

More pot-holes than turnips in Baldric’s turnip surprise

From Cheshire Cat 2011 27th March

Notes:

Joined by Brendan from the Duk’s for the first 50 when he took the planned 67 mile route.

Big queues at start, early feed station and finish.

New head scanning timing sticker – make sure you wave your helmet past the BSB square-ial like timing system.

Not a baggy short or uppy-downy seat post in sight – a refreshing change for the TNR roadie contingent

Slow and steady was order of the day, until Pete got on the front in the last ½ of the course where sprint & die seemed to be mis-guided tactics for an endurance event.

Dunc cheered up by gentle panting (with built in moan) from a female over taker on hills near plastic animals near Rushton (a.k.a. “the Lama Fields”)

What kind of Beef was in Pete’s lunchtime butties? (rumours of clembuterol)

P0rn mirage in west Cheshire.

Dreams of cups of tea and chicken dinners on the way back from Tattenhall – High 5 and bananas less appealing.

Pathetic attempt to sprint into Crewe, scuppered by a 1 in 50 rise ¼ mile from the finish reduced to a grovelling pace across the line.
