Skinny route: BL, Flash, Cat, Treacle tap

Conditions: A lovely summers evening, humid & buggy, muddy in places, much overgrowth to whip the hand and legs at the edges of the trails. Chazza wet.

Stats:

Dan 2 faffs – chain break then rear mech trashing

From TNR 21-07-11 Split Peleton

Notes:

TDF week 3 sees a split peleton with a return to muddy riding for many.

Skinnies follow the sandalous El Pud for rural roadie antics whilst Britain’s fastest M50 Mega Avalancher leads out the mudheads.

Some Dam fine riding at the bottom of Teggs, some loosely dressed lanes through Langley, and clouds of flies at every stop!

Nancies on Shutlingsloe, Back of the moon singletrack bedding in nicely.

Narnia and Hardingland almost perfect!

From TNR 21-07-11 Split Peleton

A just do it attitude most helpful at the TT, and after some nifty bike stacking we pile in for Posh pies, mash & minty peas washed down with local Lager. Dan abandons us for real mates before reappearing with face time 😉

From TNR 21-07-11 Split Peleton

We are all forced into last halves as bike storage is an all or nothing affair.

Did slim escape the lure of the late night kebab…?

1 Retro special

Notes:

Tour de France special week 2 is an excuse for a tour de cheshire pubs.

El Pres finally goes skinnyish on Stunts new crosser.

Bernard shows that retro road bikes go on forever with an 80’s classic 12 geared vision in purple and green.

El Pud arrives both late and wearing socks and sandals!!!

From TNR 14-07-11 Mobberly Wobberly + 1

Luc returns for a flying visit 🙂

After a road chain to Great Warford we soon slip into a rythym of ride, drink & depart enjoying the beer gardens and summer ambience.

Traction Engine & Low Flying Hercules for the eye spy book.

El Pud negotiates a chilli and chips special at the Church Inn.

Southern Hemisphere barstaff at the Bulls Head challenge our interpretation of the Mobberly 8 which forces an additional stop to be added to the route!

We discover orange is the in colour at the Roebuck, TJ lighting explores potential sales at the Bird in Hand, and we only just make the Plough & Flail for last orders where we learn never(always?) to give El Pres the TV remote!

From TNR 14-07-11 Mobberly Wobberly + 1

..almost lose Bernard on the long ride home

PS there was also some furtling in the forest with a Smithy stop & Church House finish.

Weather is kind and we enjoy gods own country on a fine evening.

A proper cycle rack welcomes us at Den Engles before we sample their infamous beverages.

Route: BL; Byrons Lane, Smithy, Reservoir and Rangers station paths to standing stone, back of the moon, shutlingsloe, two sided valley, wildboarclough, field path from the quiet lane across to near chazza extension, reverse chazza, BBQ.

Conditions: Clearing skies, mild but cooling fast later, some muddy patches but mainly dry trails.

Stats: another stat free night

Notes:

A lastminute.com doog production – delivered expertly yet again!

Big Event brings out Croxy & Bernard.

Aother rider joins the orange five crew as Stunt shows off new metal..and immediately Dan “tunes” its front forks.

Great views from top of the moon, and excellent grassy descent into wildboarclough.

El Pud takes us on a new cut across – rather bumpy &  hard work though.

Llama oggling and red deer spotting before the long technical climb.

Proper fire circle, clear sky, mysterious lager shortage, tactical cokes, the biggest ketchup bottle ever and plenty of in depth tennis discussion.

Butty’s single malt evaporates rapidly and don’t ask G to toast your marshmallows 😉

No gravel rash on the ride home reported this year (but then we were missing slim)

Conditions: Clear and sunny, very damp and slippy underneath

Stats:

Zero faff

A couple of slippy woody muddy offs

Notes:

El Pud was routemaster. God is good!

This ride was like an accidental, but extremely gratifying, reunion with an old flame.

A “kama sutra” of local MTB riding with a few cheeky positions being explored.

Much post Mayhem/Bristol Bike Fest talk.

Woods excursions brought out the yoof element in a few of us, route choice and evening sunshine brought smiles to all.

Butley Ash let us down, so we “went for the posh end”. The Black Boy gave us Blonde Barmaids, Blonde beverages, Boys banter…another fine evening.

1 Butty Puncture

From TNR 09-06-2011 Butty pics

Notes:

Legit excuses accepted for El Pud & Slim

PTD takes us on Mega Avalance training! & Dan obliges with geeky tyre talk.

Bulging eye spy book this week – Paragliders, vintage car & motorbike, grouse chicks, curlew, owls and red deer.

Most excellent route & trails, but Dunc proves that being in front doesn’t mean you know where you are going and leads stunt astray to the Rose & crown and grinding road climb back to regroup 🙁

Sutton Hall Burgers get the thumbs up – and we experience the fattest chips ever (or were they fried wedges??)

Closing time prevents the “where does the chain wear to make it longer” discussion getting to labelled diagrams.

An evil splinter group found the irregluar tythy whisky club for a Glenfinish to the evening 🙂

Surprisingly little water on the trails considering the rain this week.

Lots of rocky fun

From TNR 26-05-11 Return of El Pud

TJ brings out the brandy to celebrate something (although we never did get to the bottom of what!)

Small herd of red deer in wildboarclough

Waggledance, Hobgoblin and proper mans portions of food at the Church House

Its as if El Pud was never away, logistics planning of mallorca road trip has him doing the penguin walk 😉

Conditions: Still & Dry, cool later. Trails still soft, a bit midgy

Stats: No Faffs, but a couple of comedy offs from Stunt

From TNR 19-05-11 Extreme Hilliness

Notes:

EL pud gets this weeks excuse in early via text

3 Sheds arrives with replacement rear hub, but cockhall lane beats cock of the norths dodgy knee (DNF)

Langley meet point drives the route to a southerly anticlockwise forest loop

G like a puppy with seemingly inexhaustable energy(its all this roady riding??)

A trio of wheelers on nessit make us feel young 😉

Great views from back of the moon with new “downhill” that  takes advantage of forestry operations – but PTD backing up for a second pass in the middles catches stunt out!

Dentists descent slipperier that a slippery thing in slipperyville.

We are ready for beer after an evening of mostly extreme hilliness

From TNR 19-05-11 Extreme Hilliness

Bombadier & Holts IPA both extremely good, El Pud arrives for tech support and to exhort opinions (maybe he needs to ride more!)

Conditions: Light rain on and off, greasy over dried trails

Stats: Off from Dan

From TNR 05-05-11 EL Pres Curry 49er

Notes:

Alfresco curry planned in the forest, with plan B for a Dunny divert.

PTD’s forest route consists mainly of manly steep climbs and technical descents

A wet from the inside or outside clothing dilemma evening

G discovers that just because you are at the front doesn’t mean you know where we are going 😉

Nic dabs but recovers on Teggs nose – but Dan show how to fall off properly 🙂

Stunning bluebells in the woods

Dan and G prove that its faster to do Hardingland and reverse Narnia than up and over charity (surprisingly)

Entrance to Dentists descent now marked by provocative literature!

En route weather radar updates finally convince El Pres to dial C for plan B to the D (A was not the right answer)

Advance party to the Dunny catch rabbits in the headlights on nessit descent, whilst the back of the moon crew find the roads covered with frogs!

Richard in the Dunny has clearly missed our presence, black sheep and becks, watch out for the burning veg curry.

From TNR 05-05-11 EL Pres Curry 49er
