From TNR 29-09-2011 Sponds Hill Devotion

Stats: 1 mega faff for Nic  –> DNF

Notes:

Hotter than the whole summer 🙂

From TNR 29-09-2011 Sponds Hill Devotion

PTD shows his shiny Lapierre that he only rides if it won’t get dirty (so that will be the first(and last) we see it then!)

Novel route to Pott Shrigley (not too much pushing) although super heavy gates have been made to last .

Nics rear mech fatally expires and field surgery required to singlespeed his 5 to get him home

Too hot to climb off road so its all the way up to the gritstone.

Massive Mutant bugs and lethargic sheep in our lights

Single Malt and star pointing to celebrate Slims Birthday

(ok Jupiter, Mars and Uranus are planets)

El Pud finds sandals and cow poo mix rather too well.

Big leary fun down to the Vale dodging black rabbits (or was that the malt talking?)

(PTD minces past the merest hint of mud)

From TNR 29-09-2011 Sponds Hill Devotion

Vale has gone up even further in our estimation – smart new interior , brill burgers, and your Nemesis is only 3.8% 🙂

TJ is now mr Brightbike lights T shirt, Mallorca debrief & Macc Monster preview

Riding home in shirt sleeves and its almost October…”God is in his heaven” 🙂

TNR 22-9-2011 Both Nostrils of Teggs Nose

Crew: PTD, Shaun, Eric, Nic, 3 Sheds, Stunt

Route:  BL, Zig Zags, Higher Teggs, New Super Steep Descent, to Crooked yard lane, up the cobbles to Teggs Car park, over the top, normal teggs descent with a bit of the left then a bit of the right novelty, langley resevoirs, smithy, around resevoir to bottom of nessit, left down the zig zags, back round the lower resevoir route, Kings Head.

Conditions: Mild & still, pretty dry trails.

Stats: No faffs but a few hoping their batteries would last the evening!

Notes:

We indulge PTD who has clearly been plotting routes from the back garden!

Man with shot gun on the zig zags

New lexicon entry “Smith” aka Reverse Kershaw, a slope for walking bikes down (unless you are a Downhill king)

Lower sections smooth & flowy, no one cleans the cobbles (although all made it through the gate to the rocky part)

Properly dark by 7:30 – equinox has passed – its now officially autumn.

Lefty righty is alrighty, quick swoop up & around lower forest (2 deer at the bottom of nessit)

Kings Head for food, jazz & high brow conversation (thermodynamics of heat pumps, green credentials)

Who needs sunshine & san migs 😉

oh heck we’ve all turned into James May

From TNR 15-09-2011 Golden Evening Light
From TNR 15-09-2011 Golden Evening Light

Crew: Slim ,TJ, Stunt, Coley, G

Pub: Butty, El Pud, Mawds

Route: BL- zig zags, Back Eddisbury track to above teggs car park, Walker Barn, Chazza & extension, Standing Stone, Lower trail to Shutlingsloe steps, back of the moon LHS “new” trail, standing stone, RHS side descent with go right at the start through the woods singletrack , more RHS track, then LHS to ranger station & round the reservoir, church house.

Conditions: Warm, still, mostly dry trails apart from the usual boggy bits

Stats: Kersh faffs immediately on reaching us at the start of chazza!

Notes:

A glorious september day of sunshine…clouds over, almost as soon as the crew assemble at BL

El Pres comes out to grant his approval to our ride and despair at the forecast for his 3 peaks friday.

Slim & TJ talk work (billable hours??) before its luck vs karma (we never did get to the bottom of that)

Almost too warm on the climb to chazza (directing twat nav motorists who have missed the tea rooms!) but then either an extra layers or just right  as darkness descended (depending if you were overdressed)

We refuel Slim who has carelessly had an early morning swim and not consumed sufficient calories pre ride (is this a first!?)

Chazza looser than last week and dry, and extension its usual skittish self – Stunt & G almost collide but somehow manage not to (or stop)

Dodgy transit equiped with curtains, and front floodlights – but no exhaust, towing caravan with no rear lights, follow us up to standing stone!

Novel out and back loop from standing stone gets the thumbs up – and 20+ revellers on back of the moon celebrating someones (presumably big) birthday.

More fast & flowing descents all the way to the pub (picking up butty along the way)

NO PIES!!! but the haddock & chips was even better, Ramblers beat Gale Pale Ale.

Malloca planning before a rare outbreak of corporate responsibility and early leavers.

TNR 08-09-11 TJ gets the drams in

From TNR 08-09-2011 TJ gets the drams in

Crew : El Pud, El Pres, PTD and Shaun, Butty, TJ, 3 sheds and Slim

Route : Rainbow Bridge – Bollington viaduct – Middlewood Way – Poynton-ish – Lyme park inc Disley exit & re-entrance and woody bits – East gate exit to Bowstones – Sponds Hill – Pott Shrigley – The Vale

Conditions : Damper by the moment but very mild (17c at 6pm in Macc) . In the mist on the top of Sponds

From TNR 08-09-2011 TJ gets the drams in

Notes :
Butty was on his Cross bike (…and was indeed not cross himself)
An El pud “Like old times route” (thats 2002-2005 era for the newbies) with novel rooty woodsie bit, novel exit to red lane and green lane in a Disley environs manner.
TJ’s birthday was celebrated in the traditional manner at Sponds trig point. A unique combination of 8 blokes endorphined up, a misty and atmospheric Sponds hill, and the challenge of a bottle full of drams.
Needless to say the descent to Pott Shrigley was “unruly” to say the least, and it was unseasonally swampy to boot.
We were out of the Vale before midnight

From TNR 08-09-2011 TJ gets the drams in

WNR 7-9-2011 Good Weather for Duks

Crew: Dunc and Duks Chris, Vicky &  Puncture Andy, Stunt, Dan & Nic

Route: Tythy, Barracks Lane, Old Buxton Road, zig zag, teggs nose descent, Hardingland, Chazza, extension, Standing stone, Nessit Hill, Central path that splits the DH course, Lower path, around the resevoir, Tythy.

Conditions: Steady drizzle, Misty on Chazza, not that cold, wet & muddy

Stats: 1 puncture from Duk Andy

Notes:

Stunts plea for a WNR on the forum leads to a happy coincidence as Dunc is hosting the Duks MTB ride on our turf (we may need to collect taxes in the pub later)

What starting at 8 and no time for the pub after riding!!!

Tales of epic Kielder 100 weather woe from Nic which cheers up Andy who almost went.

El Pres’s motorcade passed on BL leading to irate texts enquiring what is occurring 😉

Boil in the bag night – (well for Stunt anyway) although waterproof trousers did (eventually) make sense on Chazza

Apparentley darkness makes some people deaf as we lose half the party off teggs nose when they don’t turn left.

Chazza extra challenging with mist making powerful headlights counterproductive (do I hear nostalgia for lower lumen lighting rigs)

Final lower paths ridden fluently at speed for a big finish

No pub makes for an early bed and no morning after effects

Suspect El Pres may have felt natural justice served by near perfect weather on Thursday night 🙂

TNR 24-8-2011 Sponds Hill

Crew: Butty, PTD, El Pres, 3 Sheds, Dunc, Stunt, Dan, Nic

Pub: Mawds ,TJ & El Pud

Route: BL, Rainbow Bridge, Middlewood way, Brookledge Lane, Shrigley Road, Sponds Hill figure of 8, Bakestonedale Road, Vale

Conditions: Dry & mild clear later.

Stats: 2 punctures from PTD

Notes:

A Butty production inspired by watching M17’s Motocross at the weekend

Nic & PTD arrive on alternative steeds as Orange Fives are now common as muck

Dunc sports elbow dressing but declines to show us his under short road rash from his Vet TT Wednesday night ..this is a better performance that El Pud who turned up for a Macc Wheelers TT to find it not on 🙂

All climbs to Dale Top are evil, but dry grass is good.

“The rain falls mainly on the plain” smugly watched some heavy downpours rolling NWwards over Alderley/Wilmslow

Hard ground meant motocross course very rideable, but somehow we always seemed to be riding up hill??

Light fading from 8, and lights on at 8:30 – but great views of urban lights.

TNR First? – 3 masts from one viewpoint: Winter Hill, Holme Moss & Moel-y-parc (Flintshire)

http://tx.mb21.co.uk/mapsys/google/alltx.php

Impress a small boy with our lights before entering the Vale for Styrian Pale, Fox & local Lager. Tales of derring do on MTB tandems, temptations of Macc Monster & we all regress to small boys with the appearance of TJ’s astronomical pointers.

TNR 18-08-11 Dan’s Croker Hill Sunset Ride

From TNR 18-8-11 Dan's Damp Tour of Croker

Crew : Butty, Slim, El pres, Dan, PTD, Shaun, Big Nic, Bernard, 3 sheds

Rounte : Old Buxton Rd , Teggs Nose Rear Entry, Right hand steps descent to Langley, Across Reservoir Dam (from teh Leathers), up past Hanging Gate, Fourways, A54, Croker Hill, descent on Gritsone Trail to Ryles Arms

Conditions : Horribly wet (but mild) . Then it dried up. incredible sunset from Croker Hill

From TNR 18-8-11 Dan's Damp Tour of Croker

Notes:

A Big Dan Plan. Well excecuted, with dissent well suppressed . Good food ordering logistics too.

A few wavered as the rain set in (you know who you are !!!)

But conditions improveded as we approached the A54

Incredible sunset from Croker Hill (see above)

Vet slippy and wet on descent of the gritstone. Light was going . Autumn cometh.

We were wet, but welcome and well served in the Ryles Arms. It was indeed brill. Black sheep and Wincle Waller ….and a lager called “hell” . “I rest my case, m’lud”.

A Dentist & Son Axis of evil was convened with young Dan and Palmer boy bringing evil poers to bear.

Pub : Dan

Route: Barracks La – Higher Fence Rd – Well Lane – Lidgetts Lane – Kerridge bridleway – Cow Lane – Bull Hill – Chazza – Narnia – Hardingland – Bottoms Reservoir – King’s Head

From TNR 11-8-11 Claggy Butty Birthday Ride

Weather : Low cloud, misty but mild…steady drizzle after the pub

Faffs : Two punctures on the hardingland descent

Notes :

From TNR 11-8-11 Claggy Butty Birthday Ride

Route choice was a PTD – Eric partnership
Butty’s birthday was celebrated with mini alcopops at the corner of hardingland (a first ?)
Narnia descent was just brilliant, but the whole route was grin-inducing
King’s Head was welcoming but our man odours quickly helped clear our corner of the pub.
Slim and Eric played “name that tune” as the in house Jazz band performed a great set (“People Get Ready”, “The wind Crys Mary”)
God was once again in his heaven 🙂 🙂

From TNR 04-8-11 Secret Seven

Crew: Masters Paul, Daniel, Peter, Phillip, mark, Trevor and Alex

Tavern: Master G

From TNR 04-8-11 Secret Seven

Route: A jolly meander up the old Buxton Road to Walker Barn, then the Cat n Fiddle, Danebower Hollow, Round the abandoned Quarries, Three Shires Head, Back up to the A54 past the farm, Cumberland Clough, Standing Stone and down into the Church House Tavern.

From TNR 04-8-11 Secret Seven

Conditions: the Wireless chap put out a cryptic message about a lady called Betty Swollocks paying a visit – suspect the heat must have got to him, rather close, and a good thing no gals out with us or they might have glowed brighter than Daniels new velocipede.

From TNR 04-8-11 Secret Seven

Stats:

3 Fives

Phillip nearly came a cropper on wet grass

Rather a lot of midge bites.

From TNR 04-8-11 Secret Seven

Notes:

Luckily for us the earlier rain had stopped and we were in for a fine evening.

Daniels newfangled machine is a rather brash colour which will be good for spotting him in the hills 🙂

Some of his hoses and dangly things might need some attention though as they are either too long or at the wrong angle – nothing a oily young chap a the shop can’t put straight though.

A rather long slog to the Cat, but Mark had a super go at getting there first to sweat out his fever, and popped in to the inn for some pop.

Phillip spotted an amusing motorcycle falling over incident as a leather clad chap pushed out without enough revs and promptly fell over sideways 🙂

Daniel most impressed by the trail across the top and Paul showed Phillip how to do the quarries including the stream crossing – good chap.

Once at three shires it turned out most of the chaps had forgotten their swimming kit – so just Master Alex took a dip whilst the others very kindly provided midge food.

We hurried up and away from the clouds of pesky insects and stopped at the top of cumberland clough for some restorative fruit cup and ginger pop which much relaxed us for the descent.

By now dusk was falling and Master Peter was marvelling at the light, as mist formed in the valleys and the moon reflected on the water.

At the tavern the lovely ladies plied us with a hot supper and lashings of beer, and our good friend G dropped in to hear about our adventure.

Daniel was shocked to find his new contraption was not the only one in that colour – some other blighter has the same one!

From TNR 04-8-11 Secret Seven

Trevor wowed us with new lighting offerings and a magical green light pen.

From TNR 28-07-11 Baptised in Wildboarclough

Route : Barracks La, Teggs Nose Rear Entry and novel exit, Hardingland, reverse Narnia, Chazza plus, Standing Stone, “two-sided valley”, wildboarclough, greenaway bridge, Hanging gate, Sutton Hall

Conditions : Lovely…and enough wind to keep off the flying beasties

Stats : 4 were baptised ; 1 very cool Retro Orange with V-brakes (well done Dunc !)

From TNR 28-07-11 Baptised in Wildboarclough

Notes:

– Its the summer silly season so many of the regulars were absent
– PTD in charge and so route was interesting and challenging
– trails were in excellent form , especially the descent into wildboarclough through the TSV
– 3 shires head summer dip swapped for a wildboarclough baptism – TJ, PTD, Ian and Bern are now blessed by the waters
– Too late for the hanging gate (“Creamy Puddings, Boys”)
– Sutton Hall served up “Blue Monkey” plus Whale & chips…God was in his heaven
– PTD recounted entertaining tales of camper van breakdown in the Alps and wild mountaineering in Wales
