1 Puncture (Stunt)

From TNR 07-1-10 Dane bridge

Notes:
Three trig point route ditched in favour of an Eric Dane Valley route.
End of an era as Slim converts to magic shine (but the night suns live on for commuting!)
“It will be dry” turns out to be a wee bit optimistic – but still a good route 😉
Cake mid ride Hmmm 🙂
New obstacle encountereds – 2 donkeys and a Shetland pony!
Stargazing discussions develop during puncture repair stop.
Wonderful wind assistance up Barlow hill
A little black Lab needs G’s attentions to calm down after seeing too many hats!
Ringmaster, Hydes original & Harp before late food and creamy puddings!
Blown home with the first autumn leaves

TNR 30-09-10 Back from Stoke by Garmin

Pub: PTD

Outward Route: Poynton/Prestbury/Macc Stations – Stoke-on-Trent Station

Return Route
: S-O-T – Talke Pits – Kidsgrove- Mow Cop- Congleton Edge – Biddulph Valley Way – Congleton – Gawsworth (Harrington Arms)

From TNR 30-09-10 Rudeword-dot-gpx

Conditions: Lovely evening, mild to coolish. Cloud cleared to reveal a few stars as we got closer to Macc.

Stats:

Faffs from El Pud (puncture in Murder Park), Butty (puncture at Mow Cop)

Two illegal crossings of back-gardens

1 Plan A abandonment (at Mow Cop)

From TNR 30-09-10 Rudeword-dot-gpx

Notes:

Its hard to keep up on fast canal tow paths with an under geared Cotic Hubster when RAI Race-Fit Butty & El Pud are setting a frantic pace to keep to an over ambitious trip agenda.

A strange but interesting route through canal towpaths, faded Potteries manufacturing zones, weird bits of singletrack in woods by wannabe middleclass housing estates

Our first Garmin guided TNR ? An e-enabled route using a GPX file created by the pud and put into the Butty Garmin.

Luc’s route home from Harrington Arms was mapped, planned and executed to perfection ….is this a new self orientating Luc ?

Harrington Arms is an “original style” country pub. No complaints at serving us at 9.45pm !! Expectations well managed by El Pud . No pork pies left for Slim’s dessert 🙁

Learning Point : Axis of evil is best not convened in Gawsworth.

From TNR 30-09-10 Rudeword-dot-gpx

TNR 23-09-10 Chris Palmer Night

Crew: EL Pres, El Pud, Dan, Butty, Stunt, PTD, Eric, TJ

Pub: Slim & Dunc

Route: BL, Zig zags, Chazza, Cat, early RH turn into Cumby, Standing Stone, Church House

Conditions:  Lots of standing & running water on the ground after humungus downpours immediately pre ride.

Stats:

Faffs from PTD (puncture), Dan (brakes), Butty (Light mount & chain)

Couple of low speed comedy offs from El Pud & Eric

Notes:

RAI team turn up in Hi Viz waistcoats to support CP for the evening as BAU returns & skinny tyres consigned to pub transport duties only.

Butty has gone all grizzly adams on his surly singlespeed

It’s Guinness “Chris Palmer” day at the Cat (to the bemusement of a few roadies!)

A good night for waterproof trousers

We irritate slim with RAI stories and TJ shows off the mother of all rear lights.

..looks like new management is coming soon to the Church House!!!

Was the CP evening completed with axis of evil behaviour??

From TNR 16-09-10 Its a Dogs Life
From TNR 16-09-10 Its a Dogs Life

Notes:
Eric friendly six-pack team assembles at Barrcaks Lane as RAI distracts larger TNR crew from b.a.u. duty
I was bizarrely overtaken by a dog on the off piste descent off Tegg’s nose
TJ delivers simnal cake at the Apex of chazza….Luc’s mum is preparing a copyright infringement litigation at the time of going to press 😉

From TNR 16-09-10 Its a Dogs Life

PTD devises another interesting descent from Nessit …the Forrest just gets better and better.
Interesting official MTB route creation appears at the top of Nessit.
TJ slips naturally into Salesman mode with local roadbikers in the Church house.
Autumn has arrived.

TNR 09-9-10 Divided Again (Two Skinny vs Mudheads Round 2)

From TNR 09-09-10 Two Skinny vs the Goyt Gang

From TNR 09-09-10 Two Skinny vs the Goyt Gang

In da pub : Mawds & El Pud

Skinny Route: Radbroke Hall-ish via Pexhill

Mudheads Route : Barracks – Rd to Tea Rooms, Kersh cum PTD mad descent through knarlyness and mud to the Goyt, Derbyshire Bridge – Cat& Fiddle – Danebower Hollow – Cumberland Clough – Standing Stone – Forrest – ChurchHouse

From TNR 09-09-10 Two Skinny vs the Goyt Gang

Conditions: Beautiful End to the day, cool pockets of air on the descents,

Stats:

3 or 4 Muddy rut offs
1 mysterious front brake failure (Eric)
2 Main Groups (Skinny & MTB)
2 off shoot groups from MTBers (Sean & Friend, Pete & Croxy)
1 Cheeky Kitchen Wench (Laura in the CH)

Notes:

Felt like a big turn out at Barracks Lane Muster Point….

But by the Shining Tor Tea rooms we were thinning out.

Eric’s front brake did not like the Dentist’s descent into the depths of the Goyt. It wept brake fluid a plenty

Muddy offs and midge attacks encouraged us back to Derbyshire Bridge, and the skyscape behind C&F as we climbed back from DB was worth the effort

Good to see Croxy out again

Stats:

38.75 miles round trip from Tythy
1 puncture (Dan?)
1 shooting star
6 teas & fish’n’chip type suppers#
6 million mentions of RAI (ZZZzzzz)

Notes:

Standing Stone is a dubious route out of Macc with a 53/39 Front Chainring set !
Highedge Raceway route the best choice on the outward leg…downhill almost all the way to Longnor
Flash-Axe Edge the best choice on the return leg. 58mins from Longnor chippy to the Leathers.
Excellent vibe in the Leathers Smithy. Beer tasted even better for the mini road trip to Staffs.

Conditions: Very damp…got a bit drier…and then it got wetter than a very wet thing in Waterworld.

Stats: 1 puncture (PTD?) at Forest Chapel . 1 bottle of Jura. One 44th Birthday

Notes:

  • At muster numbers where unusually high but increasing rain was bringing spirits low.
  • Ascent to chazza was fun …despite the rain. Some lost their way on the off piste.
  • From TNR 19-08-10 Drenched on 3sheds Birthday
  • Different routes to Chazza but all assembled at Standing Stone for shelter and a wee dram of Jura to mark the lager-beast’s 44th Birthday.

From TNR 12-08-10 Slightly Slack on the edge of the champagne triangle

Notes:

A slack road ride on seldom ridden lanes.

Modest consumption in multiple pubs.

Legh Arms a bit plastic, but other pubs more authentic and typical of this part of Cheshire.

Posh girls of Cheshire in evidence, especially in Luc’s local.

Quick beer with Luc & Ryan, with Ryan’s latest wheel-build on show.

From TNR 12-08-10 Slightly Slack on the edge of the champagne triangle

Pud’s recovery from injury continues (touch wood).

Dan charms his way into late food at the Osteria.

Mixed Italian starter (leftovers?), Pizza, Tiramisu & Peronis enjoyed by all. (A bit over our normal budget though!).

More new product on display from Trevor “Bettaware” Jackson

All home by sensible o’clock.

From TNR 05-08-2010 Gradbach and beyond

Notes:
An early start for a Jumbo ride, Pete delays us for the second week in a row!
Young Ian shows off new race bike (a mere 4in travel susser)
Fast pace set by RAI training Stunt gets us to the target area by 7:15!
Most excellent trails courtesy of PTD routemeister (but no wallabies)
Planned Rendevous with Nic never quite happens despite several attempts
Shaun has an eye watering “gonad meets seat” incident attempting to ride a very up & down boggy bit
A grinding climb out of Gradbach and scenic meander along Wildboarclough valley before a final leg busting ascent to standing stone
Amazingly we are on time for food at the Church House, where Nic finally catches up with us.
Extra Lancaster Red & Pale Rider & extra chips needed to restore energy levels!
