TNR 2008_10_02 Autumn Arrives with a vengeance…

a wee dram to celebrate your 45th
From TNR 2008-10-02 Autumn Arrives with Avengence

Crew: Big Dan, Salad Dodger, Stunt, Luc, Kersh, EL Pud, El Pres, PTD, Big Nick, Pez, 3sheds, Eric Route: Barracks Lane – Road to Shining Tor Tearooms – Stakeside descent – Goyt Access Rd Ascent – Cat and Fiddle – Bottom of the Oven – Standing Stone – Nezza descent – Church House
Notes : Very cold and wet ascent to the tea rooms . Cloud enveloped Stakeside …but the descent was as good as ever..bike swapping all around. Given the inclement conditions a team decision was made to Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS) …….road to Cat and Fiddle ….B.O.O. Macc Forest. Weather had cleared , views of Macc bright and clear as we left C&F. God was in is his heaven again 😉 .

Rendezvous at the benches at Nezza to celebrate Pete’s 45th with a wee dram …then everyman for himself and last one in the Church House is a White-Nancy- Boy 😉 .

From TNR 2008-10-02 Autumn Arrives with Avengence

Much talk of lumens and value lighting in the Church House. Beer and ribald jolity flowed freely. A classic thursday night.

the infamous Pez

The infamous “Pez Incident”

Back in October 2004….a wet and wild night…a novice MTBer..unfamiliar with night riding….a gate in Lyme Park…big crash….you had to be there to believe it 😉

TNR 2008_09_25 Big Dan takes us to the Roman Lakes

Ride into the dark

Ride into the dark

Pub/Muster point : the White Horse , Disley

Route : “Up North” Circuit from the carpark of the White Horse – courtesy of Big Dan

Conditions : 95% mud free, dusty and dry.

Nice bike , shame about the mudguards

Crew: Big Dan, Salad Dodger, Stunt, Luc, Kersh n Lloyd, Croxy, El Pres

Doin his own thang (but meeting up in the pub): PTD

Notes : Our second car-assisted ride in two weeks. An excellent route courtesy of Big Dan Planning Inc. Hardly any pushing – mostly fast moving up on the hills, with a bit of major up and down only when necessary (pls take note Mr Kershaw). Stunt has second (successful) attempt at Voodoo Debut, replete with comedy mudguards. Dan only lost some of the “oldies” twice. Beer, food, service and M32 situation excellent in the White Horse

Route

Easterly Loop from Waterloo Arms on the A6 t’other side of Buxton mostly on bridleways near/around Chelmorton. Should have been a figure of eight including a westerly loop but….

Conditions

A superb night for getting lost in the dark

El Pud grins, and then decides to help Kersh out

Stats

½ a ride

No offs

Faff – Lloyd lost a light clamp bolt (but we found it under Cp’s bike!)

Lloyd left to by Kersh to sort his own lights out !

Lloyd left to by Kersh to sort his own lights out !

Notes

It the minibus can’t then we’ll just drive! Cunning 1st pint from El Pres & Croxy before the start.

For a Kersh route – suprsingly little pushing uphill – rather pushing across muddy fields & rock strewn paths instead! The route might have been improved by prior reconissance – 3 retracing of routes plus one asking for directions from friendly farmers wife tell the story.

However great to be doing new territory. Unicorn & Stockport in the Waterloo – Pete has salad and offers his chips to others!

However portions not quite up to biker requirements and puddings polished off too. Good to have the Doog back.

Route

Bollin Valley to Prestbury, Chelford Lane, Artists lane LHS then RHS, Bradford lane, Hocker Lane, New territory along north edge of the edge, Squirrels leap, Mottram st Andrew, Legh arms (Black boy)

Conditions

A beautiful evening although a trifle muddy in places

Stats

1 Kershaw root slidin off

Notes

A past legend in Pez returns on the exact same steed that broke its forks all those years ago. Whilst PTD shows off yet another new steed! Perfect weather made for a very enjoyable ride. Glorious sights of geese coming overhead against the sunset on their way to the Alderley meres.

New territory on the edge got top marks for singletrack fun. An evening of almost losing folk – with Eric almost left to fend for himself at one point.

Top of Charity Lane at sunset – Mr Strickland points out the Sun for the avoidance of doubt…

Stats

Offs Eric (Cumberland Brook)

Faffs None

Notes

Almost a full crew after the holiday season closes, El Pres joins the steel Hardtail club and a Big Event plan from Bernard. Fantastic visibility across the Cheshire plain and well beyond – some previously unseen hills to the south east, sunlight glinting off the mersey and blackpool sillouhetted against the evening sun. Grumpy bikers pushing up Charity (ramblers in disguise?), very wet across Cumberland clough – but surprisingly dry down the brook!?. A warm welcome from Richard at the Dunny. Mawds showed us all how to play Darts, Lucas showed a ruthless streak in killer darts, and El Pres killer pool king. Cracking start to the autumn season – who needs road cycling in the Balearics? Does anyone remember how we ended up on the origins of the canine species?
