Route: Minibus to Clough Head, Roach End, Luds Church, Gradbach, Far Brook farm, shortcut short of 3 shires head, road ascent through cut thorn, every man for himself via wildboarclough over standing stone to the Kings head.

Conditions: very windy, wet to start.

Stats:  1 Kershaw tyre sidewall, 2 offs from PTD & Luc?

Notes:

Hurrah for a new bike friendly minibus from MDOC!
Andy gets more reversing practice than he bargained for.

Very unpleasant at the start – full waterproofs & long gloves needed

Route:

Pretty much a repeat of Al Fresco 1 :

Kerridge Ridge via an extended route to the bottom of Lidgetts Lane. A new El Puds off piste descent to the Kerrige Bridleway, Rainow, Robin Hood, Long uphill track to Lamaload, up past the Dam, up to the Buxton Road junction, Bottom of the Oven, Forest Chapel, Dentists Descent, Forrest Picnic spot.

Dry, windy & flippin cold later on.

Stats:

High on climb, low on mileage

Route: Zig Zags, Teggs Nose, Leathers Smithy, up new forest trail, Nessit, Shutlinsloe, Wildboarcough to Allgreave, A54 to Croker Hill, Dan’s Descent, Ryles Arms.

Conditions: Dry (amazingly) humid, damp trails.

Stats: TBC + Phil’s post pub puncture.

Novel route gets universal approval, but not for sllackers.

New Trail in Macc Forest suprisingly steep.

Midge Heaven on top of Nessit.

Great Views from all the high points.

Buxton Route:  Cat n Fiddle (Car assist for Luc & Phil), New cut the corner track to A54, Danger Zone across Harpur Hill HSE testing station, Solomons Temple, Grin Low woods, Road back to Cat for Drivers, A54 and Cumberland Brook, Standing Stone, Sutton Hall for the bikers.

Conditions: Mild, Dry & Southerly Breeze – First Dusty trails of the year!

Stats: El Puds pub estimate – 24 miles, 3400ft climb (to be verified). 1 placebo puncture Luc

Notes:

El Pud forced into some bike maintenance due to split saddle pre ride.

Is it always quicker to the Cat via the new road???

PTD & Dr Simon arrive early & do the Goyt from every angle instead!

Harpur Hill test station looks like it should be in the Dangerous Book for Boys 😉

Conditions: Cool E breeze made ride to the Cat hard & cold (for the SECOND WEEK RUNNING). Trails drying out – descent into Goyt was excellent

Conditions: Cool E breeze made ride to the Cat hard & cold. Cloud on Shining Tor, beautiful in the Goyt. Dry trails.

A Classic ride – Buxton road, Walker Barn, Charity Lane, Bottom’ O’ oven, Cat n Fiddle, Cumberland Clough & Brook, Forest Chapel, Charity lane, Narnia, Church House.

Dry but Big wind chill from a strong WNW wind

Stats:

15 miles

2500 Ft

1 puncture – G snakebite on Cumberland Brook

1 set of self destructing brake pads – Stunt

1 minor off – Pete on the approach to Cumberland Clough

Notes:

Big Posse, good pace, tight bunch – not a slackers ride as advertised.

Big wind assist uphill & across Cumberland clough.

Top Downhilling (some pedalling into wind required)

A wee dram in Narnia

Much winter commuting controversy & iphone envy in the pub

Where & when : Weekend of the 14th March, Whinlatter forest, North Lakes. Altura Trail, north & south Loop.

Weather : dry for the three hours we cycled (Dan had a word with God, via his iphone). very windy.

Offs : Chris ‘over the bars’ Palmer & The Doug goes head-first down a cliff-like embankment

Barracks Lane, Buxton Old Road, Murder Farm entrance to Teggs Nose, Off Piste to Langley, Road to Standing stone, Road to A54 via Cragg Hall, 3shires Head, Chumby Clough, Tarmac ascent to Standing stone, right hand rooty descent for 100m, Back up the tarmac to Standing stone, Rd to the exit of Nessit Hill, across the dam, St Dunstans……roughly 3000ft

Conditions

Clear, windy and cold up near the A54 and at 3shires head, getting drier

Stats and Notes

914m+ Climb…Nearly a 3.5hr trip (especially for the Tythy contingent)

Great debate over whether we really made the 3000ft …GPS/IPhone geekery says “yes”….

…El Pud manual estimation/calculation with wipe-clean OS map in the early hours yielded a “we were 15ft short” response

Good to have our own GP (Dr Simon) in the crew

PTD nearly put him in surgery swerving to avoid a Toad on the first ascent to Standing Stone

Classic Buxton Road Curry washed down nicely with the St Dunstan’s finest ale

Mayhem-2008-like attack of cramp at about 3am for Pete
