Crew: Pete, Dunc, Stunt
Route: Gleave Av, Bulls Head, Redway Lane, Under Nancy, back of Kerridge, Rainow, Oakenbank, Spuley Lane, Shrigely Road, Long Lane, Green Lane, Beeston Brow, Poachers.
Conditions: Wet to Gleave Avenue, then simply wet trails, mild.
Notes:
The proper rain from 3:30 led to lots of excuses, so only the determined three made the rv at Austin Heights to inspect the progress of the build (watertight next week if the windows arrive!), views from the front will be excellent, and whilst naming all the lumps in view we realise it has stopped raining!
Dunc has done another silly wednesday night fell race this week, a loop from Castleton, past Peveril Castle, over Mam Tor, along the ride to Hope and back to Castleton. His knee is complaining, so a slack ride is declared.
Wet grass, slippy roots and a touch of mud maketh back of Kerridge more than a contour traverse (no sign of Dunc’s light from last week either).
Lights are on although it’s not that dark, and at the end of Oakenbank the knee feels up to extending the ride with a road loop out to Long Lane, some nice stonework facing the mega lego on the Bakestonedale road corner house.
A Tawny owl is hooting on green lane (Pete slows to spot it) and a quick slither down Beeston mount it’s into the Poachers for 8:15.
Curry’s all round – cali & chickpea very flavoursome, the Thai green quite spicy!
Nick from the Nancy’s arrives – and we find they are only 2 tonight – TNR win again!
Great table service from Louis and the team, by the time we need to pay up, Dunc has broken his 2 pint promise (but only by 1) whereas the rest of us are north of 4 (with a whisky).
Next week proper riding!
