Words and Pics by Pete
Crew : Pete, PTD and TJ
Pub : Butty
Route: Rainbow Bridge – Middlewood way – Pott Shrigley – Brickworks – Birchencliffe Lane – Long Lane – Beeston Brow – The Poachers
Stats : Two fire engines
Conditions : Decidedly damp and soggy
Notes:
In the hour or so before the ride Macclesfield (well at least Tytherington) saw some downpours of biblical proportions – I was wading through a small lake on my driveway trying to unblock the drain so that the garage did not get flooded.
Then I sheltered in the “man cave” putting the finishing touches to the re-shelled Cotic Soul before its debut shakedown ride.
My Soul is truly dark now, as only a black medium 26 wheel frame was available.
I must credit Eric at this juncture – his ingenuity and help last Monday night allowed the re-shelling to be finished in under 2hrs 🙂
For a while I thought it was just too damn wet…but despite the late bail of one or two crew ..the show had to go on….
It was a late rendezvous at RB, even by my standards . About 7pm I think.
TJ had already made the slog from Poynton to BL, getting decidedly drenched along the way in downpours. At BL he discovered the revised muster point ….
PTD’s positivity vibes lifted the team spirit …and the initial plan of abandon to the Poachers vital shortest route tuned into a moderately respectable ride. Up to the Brickworks with Birchencliffe Lane and the descent from Beeston Brow thrown in to make it a proper MTB ride.
As we arrived into Bolly we were greeted by the sight of two fire engines – the cellar of the Cotton Tree pub had been flooded
The Poachers was a welcome haven, already full of a soggy group of the WNB by 8.30. Fine ale and a quick change into warm dry stuff and the world was once again a better place.
