| From TNR 14-02-13 Gear cable for my valentine |
Crew :
El Pud, Eric , TJ, Butty, El Presidente , Slim
Route : Bl , Langley , across back of trentabank reservoir ,ascent of new fire road to Witch’s cottage 2, standing stone, reverse half chazza, Narnia, Hardingland, saddlers way, coal pit lane , Sutton Hall
stats:
2 punctures for El Presidente
1 bad case of chain suck for slim
1 expired gear cable outer for El Pud
Conditions: Early rain disappeared . A lot milder than of late. very muddy in bits.
Notes :
With El Pud in leader position, with Eric consultancy on hand, a novel route was guaranteed.
Ascending chazza to Narnia was interesting. 3 or 4 degrees above zero had resulted in a glacial stream, chunky with ice and snow, making MTB boots essential …but our North Wave standard issue were only just high enough to keep our socks dry.
TJ and El Presidente are so community spirited…they paused to rebuild the dry stone wall on chazza, just short of the Narnia turn-off.
Narnia was thankfully mostly free of snow and ice, and our descent to witches cottage as grin- inducing as ever.
Cloud had cleared by Narnia. Starlit happiness and a fingernail moon. A twinkling Macc in the valley below.

Muddy bit after WC was the muddiest I have ever seen it. Hardingland still had snow drifts near the top. Down to saddler’s way . A stop halfway up SW to sit, sample and discuss the qualities of Pernod. How very continental, and a TNR first.
Up to Teggs Nose Car Park. Then descent via the bridleway parallel to old Buxton rd. , then coal pit lane descent to Langley. The joy of puncture 2 from El Presidente 🙁
Sutton Hall for “flat cap”, Leffe and general bad behaviour which had to be reined in by our resident voice of reason, Eric the Brave.
