TNR 29-11-2012 Moon Madness

From TNR 29-11-2012 Moon-madness

Crew : Langley joe, PTD, El Pres. Eric. Kersh , Butty, Slim, big events Bernard

Route : Cat and Fiddle road to Shining Tor tea rooms, the c & F, Danebower Hollow, the full Chumby, Wildboarclough Valley Rd, north shore route to icy and madness of punctures in subzero.

Conditions : cold and moonlit, with lots of frozen bits.

notes :

Oh no, another long road climb to the tea rooms. But the rd was quiet, and the moon was full. When we went to stealth mode the effect was magic. We cast shadows in the moonlight. We rode through a blue white landscape of gentle 3 d. We were blessed.
Had big events Bernard known this ? Maybe it’s an almost 55 thing.

As we rode the Danebower hollow track the ice patches warned of what was yet to come. Eric was fearless on his newly acquired, Halifax-built full susser.

Thoughts of a three shires route were abandoned . A plot was hatched to do the ” full chumby “. This was a good plot. Frozen muddy tussocks good.

We assembled at the bit by the waterfall. Spirits were high. We wondered what chumby was like in her nether regions…..dry bits good, wet bits less treacherous than we feared.

As we hit the valley bottom we opened the freezer door. Must have been -5.

Standing stone ascent thawed us out, and we paused briefly to defrost with a quick nip of Jura. Marvellous. First frost of the winter, properly celebrated. PTD took the lead again and food orders were relayed to the CH.

Debate about the route down was brief. It would be rude to avoid the forest. The Nature conservation area was traversed but conserved.
We all stopped to wonder at the sight of a 22degree ice halo around the Moon ( see links below ). Then on down and around the reservoir, past the LS , and then down to the CH.
Sir Phillip, pride of Pendleton…later whisky….pies to die for ..only Butty had the crumble. Home by 12. without the Dan the axis never gets a firm grip
