TNR 17-5-2012 Shirt Sleeved “Short” Ride

Mystery rider, mystery location

Its a fair cop 🙂

Crew:  PTD, Eric, Butty, Slim, Stunt, Dan

Pub: Dunc, Nic & Shaun

Route: BL, Teggs Nose, Smithy, Reservoirs, zig zags at bottom of Nessit, cross forest & up the steps to forest chapel, Narnia, Hardingland, Crooked Yard, Bull Hill, Rainow, Kerridge Ridge (or Oakenbank), Vale.

Conditions: Rather humid and unexpectedly warm, cloudy, excellent trail conditions.

Stats: Eric punctures twice!

Notes:

A small crew post the big weekend, and Slim regrets commuting this week and requests a shorter ride.

Butty astride his surly singlespeed (newfangled hub on the 456 leaking oil on sunday)

Route choice reverse engineered/made up as we went along in order to get to the vale – and if that was a short/easy ride (15miles, 2,500ft climb)  then I’d hate to see the long/hard version (ahem)

Teggs descent best conditions in ages 🙂 🙂

Lower forest is steeper than you think – especially the cheeky path (no wonder its fast the other way).

More aggregate on the fire roads again!!! surely there must be enough now?

Eric discovers a slow punture in his rear (tyre!) but it’s soon an extremely fast one within 100m. His skinny replacement tube isn’t man enough for Narnia water bars and its take 2 at Witches cottage.

Hardingland brings out the red haze amongst the downhill daredevils (or in Butty’s case a lack of effective brakes).

A mini top gear challenge from top of crooked yard to the Vale sees the unfancied Slim & Stunt win hands down via Oakenbank vs the direct “over the ridge ” option.

As it was a mostly short sleeved night a mass defection to Moravka was in order to the disgust of Dunc who arrived on pink retrobike.

Slim flashes the barmaids his cash then pays his weekend debts 🙂

Nic shares his latest mad running plan (120 miles around Anglesey in 3 days anyone!)

Possibly the only time every rider has brought a lock?
