Route : Bolly library – Towpath to Brookledge lane – Pott Shrigley RV with the Poynton Posse – Brickworks- Moorside lane – boundary wall (of Park Moor) climb – Dale top – GT – naughty 90degree descent- Cornfields Rd – Edge of Kettleshulme – Reform School – Mudhurst Lane – Butty footling on the North side of Lyme Park – traverse to the West  Gate – Poynton sunset strip (Flute & Firkin)

Conditions  : Overcast but no real rain (until the latesters were almost home) , mild (it was 12c on the way home but felt warmer)

Prologue

Pete : “I really appreciate you putting out a route idea earlier today “

Dunc : “ I don’t like uncertainty”

Thank god that we have some Project Manager’s mentality amongst us !

Notes :

This week we ended up with a novel route plan and a smooth, seamless  leadership transition from Dunc to Butty .

And …Four in the crew is a magic number , imho .

This week the random “pub topics of conversation “ started early ..well before we reached thewatering holes of Poynton :

  • Reggie Perrin
  • “ Warning : this TNR report reflects the values of the aged un-pc riders , whose moral compass was forged in the 1970s”
  • Pirate Radio mast at Bowstones in years gone by
  • Frank side bottom & Little Frank & Amoeba Frank
  • The Bradshaw’s of Barnoldswick

We skirted the edge of Kettleshulme by dropping off the Gritstone Trail just short of Bowstones. I have been this way once or twice before…a cart track width path , quite fun but the late summer grass was deep and hid family loaf-sized rocks .  A bit of a minefield.

At the end of this we hit tarmac and crossed into a narrow lane (Cornfields)

A traverse of a just about deserted Lyme Park …Butty kept suggesting a bit of gatuitous firtling  e-play

Greasy pig (aka The Strawberry Pig) shuts at 8:30!

Sausage & chips & curry sauce all round – nothing else left

Flute & Firkin – for a few beers :

Paulaner weissbeer (the main contender imho) – Neighbourhood liquid state – a Pale Ale (so so) –

7 Bros something or other (again a bit so so)

Fed & Watered for About £24 a head – good value in my book

Then a bit of a TNR first – a mini AOE back in TJ’s Motor home quaffing Maker’s Mark !

Left Coppice lane 00:01 ..home by 00:35 – now we know what its like for Butty & TJ on all those late returns from Macc !
