Crew: Stunt, Bern
Pub: Dunc, Nic
Route: Blakelow Road, Zig, Teggs, Smithy, Witches Cottage, Charity, Narnia, Witches Cottage, Smithy.
Conditions: Cool, little wind, wet & muddy trails.
Stats: One Off & Rear wheel disconnection (Bern)
Notes:
Stunt and the all new “regular events” Bern keep the TNR flag flying this week whilst others frolic in the snow covered Alps!
Despite rain earlier in the day, there are clearish skies, half a moon, stars and (being suitably dressed) it doesn’t feel cold or nasty 🙂
Attempting to keep to mainly rocky trails we head to Teggs where we find the grass pretty treacherous on the top bit, then drier than we expected on the middle, and then super soft and slippy on the lower part!
Bern has an off on the steep slope between the end of the main Teggs track, and the track to the reservoirs car park. On getting up he finds his back wheel has detached! Unrolling the impressive Big Bern tool kit he sets to work and solves it himself!!
Stunt pushes back up from the bottom just in time to record this momentus event 🙂
Failure is laid squarely at the door a the bike shop who had recently “maintained” the bike!
All is still good as we pop into the Smith and order food (just escaping in time before Bern ordered a swift half!)
Long grind up too Charity, but enjoying the views and peaceful forest.
Charity down is very lumpy…the mega snow melt & rain having washed all the mud away!
Time begins to press, so we turn to do Narnia…its less muddy than we expect, but still slithery fun.
On down the fire road to the pub and a warm fire. Overhang the ale of choice, and the boar steak, and venison sausages are excellent too. Dunc & Nic arrive to bring ribaldry, mirth and tall tales. Bern heads home before a mini axis of evil leads to two rounds of Glenfiddich.
Car park barrier is across by the time we head back, with the usual racing between the pub only riders with all that spare energy. (we avoid the gunco drop this week).
An evening that you were glad you came out 🙂
