Pub: Coley & Dunc
Route: BL , Buxton New Road, Tearooms, C&F, a half Danebower, Down to the Waterfall, Chumby, Standing Stone, Nessit & Dan’s Bench, Diverse routes down to Sutton hall
Conditions: Dry, sunny and very pleasant . pleasantly cool on exit from the SH.
Notes:
A surprise visitation at the sacred hour of 6:30 at BL by The Doog on his new (old) Triumph Bonneville . A beautiful machine.
A long climb up to the Tea rooms and then the Cat and Fiddle but the sun shone and much was good in the world
only halfway along Danebower Hollow, and we took the challenging but grin inducing “route directe” to Chumby. The light was just exquisite and Butty led the way.
by the time i arrived at the waterfall/gate there was a liberally shot of Rusty Nail on-the-rocks being dispensed with quality sausage rolls and the obligatory Colmans . the boy has taste and style, and not quite at his half century even.
Chumby seemed especially chunky about 3/4 the way down. rocks like babys heads (to quote El Pud) .
Our next muster point was Dan’s bench , for a snifter of Jura (thanks TJ) . The sun was down but the view was still magnificent .
Bernard and my bead self were the last to leave the bench and seemed to have a monopoly on our route down : the Nessit fire track and then across the dam to the Leathers.
TJ and Butty were the last to arrive at SH ….I think Butty had some sort of wheel mishap ??
Our early start on the refreshments lead to an early inception of the “Ribaldry Zone” …needless to say much chortling ensued.
Bizarrely I seem to recall some discussion on the cause of Frank Zappa and Lemmy’s deaths …..both prostate cancer
We made the dubious decision to fund the Troll on a whisky reconnaissance mission
