{"id":4186,"date":"2019-10-26T18:16:49","date_gmt":"2019-10-26T18:16:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/android-finder.co.uk\/?p=4186"},"modified":"2019-10-26T18:18:20","modified_gmt":"2019-10-26T18:18:20","slug":"tnr-24th-october-2019-a-night-in-the-ruts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/android-finder.co.uk\/?p=4186","title":{"rendered":"TNR 24th October 2019 &#8211; A Night in the Ruts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Words by Pete, Photos by Butty &amp; Pete<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/48963810827\/in\/album-72157711507793046\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48963810827_9358df3cab_h.jpg\" alt=\"WhatsApp Image 2019-10-24 at 21.02.02\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Crew <\/strong>: TJ, Butty , Pete<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pub:<\/strong> Dunc<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Route <\/strong>: Bridge 10 &#8211; Pott Shrigley &#8211; Bakestonedale Rd &#8211; Grit Stone Trail &#8211; Bowstones &#8211; Birchencliffe &#8211; Canal &#8211; The Windmill&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Conditions <\/strong>: Cooling fast , thankfully no rain<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Notes<\/strong> :&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After last week\u2019s magnificent 7 (swelling to the Dirty Dozen in the pub) we are back down to the cheeky northern threesome.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter, a small,&nbsp; but perfectly formed crew .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a night of firsts&nbsp; :&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>First time we muster at Bridge 10 (Middlewood Way)&nbsp;<\/li><li>First time (for me at least) we dine and quaff at The Windmill after a TNR&nbsp;<\/li><li>First time (in a while) we have TJ leading on the route choice<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We are all layered up for the expected cool evening &#8211; but by the time we get to Pott Shrigley I had to shed some layers .&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We wind our way up to where the Gritstone Trail crosses the road and pause a while just inside the gate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luckily we are all gazing up at the stars when a shooting star graces the heavens &#8211; I take it as a good omen that we all catch a glimpse.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/48962968308\/in\/album-72157711507793046\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48962968308_3d58cb2ba4_h.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3972\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We stopped by the \u201c1974 Stone\u201d to take in the sky and the glittering treasure of the Cheshire plain beneath us .&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quite a photogenic spot but Butty was getting cold so we had to push on .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/48963695522\/in\/album-72157711507793046\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48963695522_e6ff800d20_h.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3970\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the ladder style at Bowstones and we hear our first bellowing stag &#8211; a kind of cross between a loud shout and a burp.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our head torches pick out loads of pairs of eyes , and the odd fine pair of antlers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the investigation of a small but slippy quarry we push on back towards the Windmill .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tussocky route and ladder styles which take you back to Birchencliffe \u201ckeep you honest\u201d, as Butty says , this is no slack ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We get to the windmill by 8.45 &#8211; Butty was spot on with his predication&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Good service. No chips for Pete !
