Cold wind on the tops. Lack of light pollution made for good view of the stars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/46414574814\/in\/album-72157678778469448\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7898\/46414574814_30168c7b6c_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2360\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Notes :&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Our pilgrimage\u00a0 to Croker Hill worked very well.\u00a0<\/li><li>An excellent route outwards towards the A54 . Albeit all tarmac. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/46224018565\/in\/album-72157678778469448\/\"><\/a><\/li><li>the route was a little novel &#8211; canal towpath and then a traverse of Sutton Hall &#8211; Judy Lane route to the Ridgeway .<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/46224020465\/in\/album-72157678778469448\/\"><\/a>The weather was clear and fairly still . But out on the tops (after Hanging Gate) there was a cold wind .\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/40173274363\/in\/album-72157678778469448\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7910\/40173274363_db44593b60_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2361\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Bernard and I hung back and chatted. About V1 crash sites in Macclesfield Forest. Amongst other stuff.\u00a0<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/46224018565\/in\/album-72157678778469448\/\"><\/a>Chris snapped his chain on the climb up the Croker access road.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/li><li>Whilst the president was sorting through various \u201clegacy chain technology\u201d quick-links to find a 10 speed, Butty shivered up the hill ahead of us.\u00a0At the stopping ( or rather sheltering) point behind a wall we poured the G and T. The Troll has brought a little bottle of orange bitters to spice things up. Bernard had brought M&amp;S Chardonnay nuts and a little dish for them!! Very posh.\u00a0<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/40173272103\/in\/album-72157678778469448\/\"><\/a>It was now time for the president to shiver, until he was encouraged to don another layer. Smug jackets ( a good piece of TNR terminology, Mr Troll) were definitely needed. I was glad that I had decided to wrap the Bombay Sapphire payload in my montane down jacket.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/32196235867\/in\/album-72157678778469448\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7895\/32196235867_ce06e016f0_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2359\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I always enjoy the annual \u201cDan pilgrimage\u201d , and the Croker Hill G &amp; T version always evokes fond memories.\u00a0 I have an abiding memory of a refreshed ,yet spirited, descent ( with Dan) to the Ryles Arms through mud,\u00a0 hail and snow.\u00a0<\/li><li>This years descent to the Ryles did not disappoint . Appropriately mad but not too muddy. Thankfully.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/46414575824\/in\/album-72157678778469448\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7907\/46414575824_2aba58dbf8_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2358\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Tyre pressure adjustment was once again essential &#8211; as was the ensuing p1ss take from the rest of the motley crew.\u00a0<\/li><li>to quote Mr B ..\u201dexciting descent which needed careful precision and banter in equal measures, steak all round (mostly), miserable (Valentines) couples, happy bikers (Editors note : that is us) , attentive waitresses, Mrs troll arrives to collect Mr Troll . An expensive bill\u201d\u00a0<\/li><li>A fine TNR .
