{"id":3666,"date":"2018-01-21T14:13:15","date_gmt":"2018-01-21T14:13:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/android-finder.co.uk\/?p=3666"},"modified":"2018-01-27T20:56:14","modified_gmt":"2018-01-27T20:56:14","slug":"tnr-18-01-2018-snowing-cats-and-pigs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/android-finder.co.uk\/?p=3666","title":{"rendered":"TNR 18-01-2018  Snowing Cats and Pigs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/38886675205\/in\/photostream\/\" title=\"IMG_0078\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4749\/38886675205_37a4417c98_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" alt=\"IMG_0078\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><em>Words by Alex , Pics by Pete <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Crew:<\/strong> El Pres, Slim, Stunt<\/p>\n<p><strong>Route:<\/strong> BL, New Road, Tea Rooms, Bottom of the Oven, Standing Stone, Halfpipe fire road, Ressies, Sutton Hall<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nConditions:<\/strong> Light Snow, very wet through to deep snow depending on height<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stats:<\/strong> One post pub off (El Pres)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Notes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It had been sub five and wet all day&#8230;with many a TNR&#8217;r off Alpward early saturday&#8230;so only a brave few ventured out.<\/p>\n<p>Weather geeks had been glued to the buxton webcams to assess the chance of rideable snow, conclusion definitely at the Cat, possibly lower.<\/p>\n<p>The only way to find out is to head uphill and see!<\/p>\n<p>Stunt on fresh bikeage of the 27.5+ full suss variety on the alledged sweet spot of 2.6&#8243; rubber&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/25913499648\/in\/photostream\/\" title=\"IMG_0078\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4760\/25913499648_65e8978e2b_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" alt=\"IMG_0078\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>All in full waterproofs and anti death jackets.<\/p>\n<p>A slightly delayed start due to new bike setup tweaks in Pete&#8217;s garage from the Tythy duo.<\/p>\n<p>The grey sign was flashing red on Buxton road, and the road was also coned off&#8230;excellent less traffic to worry about.<\/p>\n<p>Slush on the road soon after..not that deep and we were riding in wagon tyre tracks on an inch or so without any issue.<\/p>\n<p>The odd 4&#215;4, a few brave 2 wheel drive&#8217;s and the snow started to come down thicker.<\/p>\n<p>By Charity snow was settling on the fields, but we carried straight on to find the &#8220;good stuff&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Progress a little slower than normal..you can feel the extra effort of not riding on tarmac.<\/p>\n<p>Ho lights in the distance&#8230;Cheshire Police highway patrol are coming down towards us, they slow for some words of advice, and we are advised that it&#8217;s nasty higher up and to head back.<\/p>\n<p>We are left to discuss this intel, whilst pedalling carefully. We come across a car on it&#8217;s side that has driven straight on at a corner into a field earlier in the day. It must have been a white out?<\/p>\n<p>Snow is thicker on the fields, and it&#8217;s quite hard to work out where we are as the landscape just looks different all white.<\/p>\n<p>Before we know it we are at the tearooms \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/28007390689\/in\/album-72157689578197942\/\" title=\"IMG_0078\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4770\/28007390689_cf3dbd92ab_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" alt=\"IMG_0078\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Time to test the snow&#8230;and it&#8217;s already too deep&#8230;plus the snow is now horizontally in our faces&#8230;the good officers were spot on..it&#8217;s nasty.<\/p>\n<p>Advice taken we head down to the bottom of the oven (wishing we had brought ski goggles).<\/p>\n<p>There is more snow on the road here than the main road, making it fun\/interesting depending on your level of grip!<\/p>\n<p>Bottom of the oven, out of the wind, and less snow, feels a lot better.
