{"id":3223,"date":"2016-07-25T12:11:53","date_gmt":"2016-07-25T12:11:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/android-finder.co.uk\/?p=3223"},"modified":"2016-08-02T20:05:25","modified_gmt":"2016-08-02T20:05:25","slug":"tnr-21-7-2016-doogs-backwoods-bbq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/android-finder.co.uk\/?p=3223","title":{"rendered":"TNR 21-7-2016 Doog&#8217;s Backwoods BBQ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/28109852914\/in\/album-72157671067293812\/\" title=\"IMG_8080\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c3.staticflickr.com\/8\/7761\/28109852914_cb75d7ae44.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_8080\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Crew: El Pres, Butty, Dunc, Slim, Bernard, 3 Sheds, Stunt<\/p>\n<p>BBQ: Doog, TJ, Adrian &amp; Billy the Spaniel<\/p>\n<p>Route: BL, novel up past the former Eric residence, Zig zags to Windyways, Charity Lane, Butty&#8217;s shortcut into Narnia, Hardingland, Langley Resevoirs, Smithy, Witches cottage, BBQ.<\/p>\n<p>Conditions: some light drizzle early on, warm, dry trails<\/p>\n<p>Notes:<\/p>\n<p>Summer having finally arrived this week we optimistically plan for al fresco eating.<\/p>\n<p>Doog takes charge for a traditional meaty feast, and despite a bit of weather to keep us on our toes, its all go for plan A.<\/p>\n<p>Tis a very warm humid evening, and its not worth donning waterproofs (it&#8217;s almost comforting a hint of coolth)<\/p>\n<p>Route is chosen for options, and starts with an unusual suggestion to head up Whitney Croft and climb off road.<\/p>\n<p>Cheeky thoughts of having the BBQ on El Puds front lawn and sending him the pictures (another time!?)<\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/maccaustinsorguk\/28443197730\/in\/album-72157671067293812\/\" title=\"IMG_8102\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c3.staticflickr.com\/9\/8268\/28443197730_843043f25c.jpg\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" alt=\"IMG_8102\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>There are a lot of steps, but variety is good, and a heron is fishing in the upper pool. We also discover that one way signs are hard to spot (and blondes in 4&#215;4&#8217;s = trouble)<\/p>\n<p>By the time we get to windyways it&#8217;s pretty clear that it&#8217;s too humid for riding hard, and a single loop is the best plan.<\/p>\n<p>Some lads on very clean bling bikes catch us at Butty&#8217;s shortcut, some admiring glances at a\u00a0cotic rocket in the flesh (steel?!)<\/p>\n<p>One does need to know where the shortcut goes to get the momentum for flow, but some fun in bombholes on sketchy pineneedles.<\/p>\n<p>Two running ladies ask out help to find a pond at witches cottage (we think it might be the pool created on the fire road bend just lower down).<\/p>\n<p>Hardingland dry and fast. Langley resssies very low (for maintenance we think), and three herons are making the most of shallow water (not so good for the fish).<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a long long drag up (helped by saying hi to Belgian Andy out walking his dogs), and the anticipation of fire, beer and food.<\/p>\n<p>We set up in the bivvy spot as the grass is very long and very wet. Doog does us proud with a 4 meat feast plus baked potatoes, and beer\/lager. The first tins disappear very quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Strange tales of car driving up off road,\u00a0and man with dog coming our way..turns out to be Adrian coming to join the fun. Billy the 4 month old cocker bitch is a big hit (especially with Butty and Ball) and is very well behaved given the food and fire combo. (she really likes chewing soft pine cones).<\/p>\n<p>Food consumed, a small fire is created (just) on the bbq.
